I create handmade work for the rhythms of daily life: woven towels, stitched goods, small paintings, and other objects that carry the quiet joy of being made by hand.
This is my greyhound, my studio assistant and quality control expert. He naps while I create, but he insists on being the face of the brand. His quiet company reminds me that slow intentional work has its own rhythm.Hi, I’m Danielle, the hands behind Fat Gray Cat Designs.I create by hand in North Carolina, weaving on a floor loom, sewing, painting, and experimenting with other handmade pieces for the home and daily life. My work is rooted in texture, repetition, and the rituals of living: setting the table, drying a dish, pulling on a scarf, pausing to admire a painting on the wall. I love a good grid. I love a pop of color. I love when something beautiful is also practical. This is slow work, shaped line by line and thread by thread, made to be touched and lived with. Each piece carries the marks of time and hand, and I hope you’ll welcome them into your own daily rhythms.
Notes, photos, and process from my handmade life.
Built to last. Handmade goods aren’t rushed through machines or designed for quick turnover. They’re made slowly, with durable materials and careful finishing, so they can live with you for years.Every piece is unique. Even when two items are woven or made from the same design, small variations in thread, tension, or texture make each one truly one-of-a-kind.Rooted in connection. When you choose handmade, you’re choosing a direct line to the maker. Their hands, time, and vision are woven into the work. It’s not just an object it’s a story you get to carry home.Beauty in the everyday. Handmade goods transform daily rituals from drying dishes, setting the table, wrapping up in a scarf get turned into small moments of beauty and intention.
Can I use this every day?
Absolutely! These towels are soft, absorbent, and made for daily life. They’ll only get better with time. How should I wash handwovens?
Machine wash cold with like colors. Tumble dry low or hang to dry. Avoid fabric softener to preserve absorbency. Will it shrink?
Handwovens have been pre-washed and pre-shrunk so what you see is what you get.Is it really handmade?
Yes! Every item is made by hand in my studio. One shuttle or stitch at a time, and finished with care.
